Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition which most often appears between the ages of 30 and 60 and is usually visible on the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose.

People with rosacea often find they suffer from facial thread veins as the skin is red and flushed. Red veins and red flushing can be a cause of real concern and distress.

Unfortunately, rosacea is a chronic condition however, with our medical-grade Lynton IPL treatment we can create a personalised treatment plan to help to get your rosacea under control. As there is no cure for rosacea, we will work closely with you to devise a personalised treatment plan to help combat and reduce rosacea.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is susceptible to Rosacea?

  • The onset of rosacea can be mistaken for acne or sensitive skin
  • It’s more common in those who have fair skin
  • It’s genetic
  • Rosacea has lots of triggers. These include alcohol, exercise, high and low temperatures, hot drinks, spicy foods, stress and sun exposure.

Rosacea can vary considerably from one patient to another, treatments must always be tailored to individual needs. Your doctor or GP will be able to advise you on the various oral and topical medications. Often, a course of anti-biotics followed by on-going topical treatment is recommended. Your doctor will be able to discuss the possible benefits and side effects of prescribed medication. Intense Pulsed Light is a drug free alternative which has shown to be extremely effective at getting rid of thread veins which cause the Rosacea effect.

To begin the treatment we will cleanse away any makeup or skincare and apply a cold gel on the area to be treated. The handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied to the skin’s surface in gradient movements. Protective eyewear will be supplied.

People with Rosacea have many facial thread veins which dilate to certain stimuli (eg hot bath or spicy food) and stay open for longer periods of time compared to non-Rosacea sufferers. These thread veins have weaker walls and therefore do not function properly. Intense Pulsed Light treatment has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of Rosacea. It works by a process called photothermolysis. This light therapy selectively destroys the abnormal vessels (thread veins) that cause the Rosacea effect, allowing thicker walled micro vessels to be laid down.

MEET

Dr Claudia Petillon

There is increasing pressure on us these days to appear ‘ageless’ and conform to celebrity ideals and this in turn can lead to confidence issues which I all too often see as a doctor.

I truly believe in a ‘less is more’ philosophy and want to work with my clients to achieve a more youthful version of themselves whilst retaining their full range of expression and not giving them a mask like look. I want your friends to comment on how well you are looking but not be able to tell that you have had a cosmetic treatment. That’s a secret that you can choose to keep to yourself!
