HIFU is a treatment utilising High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to heat up targeted areas of soft tissue below the surface of the skin. Treatment areas are the neck, jawline, lower face, neck, brow and the lateral eye area.

HIFU is ultrasound focused below the skin’s surface causing cellular friction within molecules and precise target-point heating. The friction between the molecules produces heat and thermal injury at the focal point of the HIFU delivery.

The result of this promotes healing, immediate contraction and collagen stimulation through fibroblast activity within these treatment zones.

What are the benefits of HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)?

HIFU can treat a number of ageing concerns by targeting specific areas of the face, such as the neck, jowls, and brow. Sagging skin is tightened and fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.

  • SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) contraction
  • Collagen stimulation
  • Wrinkle Reduction
  • Tightening of the jawline
  • Improvement of skin tone

HIFU is a one-off treatment and results are expected to be seen after 4 months. These results can last between 12 – 18 months. A second HIFU application must not be performed any sooner than 9 months after first treatment.

The side effects of HIFU include:

  • Redness
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Numbness
  • Heat reaction
  • Blistering

Your HIFU protocol is as follows:

  • Cleanse and prepare the skin
  • Mark the treatment area and areas to avoid (white pencil)
  • Ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area
  • HIFU treatment is performed
  • Ultrasound gel thoroughly removed
  • Serum (Hyaluronic mask can be applied)
  • Cream applied
  • SPF applied

It is recommended to stop using retinol and Vitamin C serum 3 days before your treatment.

Dr Claudia Petillon

There is increasing pressure on us these days to appear ‘ageless’ and conform to celebrity ideals and this in turn can lead to confidence issues which I all too often see as a doctor.

I truly believe in a ‘less is more’ philosophy and want to work with my clients to achieve a more youthful version of themselves whilst retaining their full range of expression and not giving them a mask like look. I want your friends to comment on how well you are looking but not be able to tell that you have had a cosmetic treatment (that’s a secret that you can choose to keep to yourself)!
