Aesthetic procedures to enhance and volumise the derrière have become hugely popular in recent years and led to the rise of the Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL.
The BBL involves taking fat from other parts of the body, typically the abdomen, hips or thighs, using liposuction and injecting purified fat cells into the buttocks to create fuller contours. The BBL quickly became very controversial, as some doctors and surgeons injected larger and larger amounts of fat to achieve a more dramatic result.
Patient safety became compromised and, in the UK, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons banned their members from performing BBLs in 2018 after a report found that it had the highest mortality rate of any cosmetic surgery procedure. Although the BAAPS ban was lifted in 2022 following the release of new safety guidelines for surgeons, patients started searching for a safer alternative to the BBL.
Non-surgical bum lift vs BBL vs dermal fillers
LanLuma is a unique and innovative injectable treatment. Unlike hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which temporarily volumise the area where they are injected, LanLuma stimulates collagen production to reshape the bum, correct ‘hip dips’ and even reduce the appearance of dimpling on the buttocks. LanLuma offers more longevity than HA dermal fillers, typically lasting for two years before any maintenance treatments are required.
The main component in LanLuma is Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) which has been used safely in medicine and aesthetics for decades. Biocompatible and biodegradable, the PLLA particles stimulate the production of new collagen, which lifts, tightens and volumises the target area.
Unlike the BBL, LanLuma injections have minimal risk and little downtime as it is performed in clinic rather than under a general anaesthetic. The results are very natural because they are created using the body’s own collagen production and appear gradually, over several weeks and months, as the new collagen is produced.
LanLuma can also target many facial ageing concerns, including volume loss and sagging skin. To find out if LanLuma is right for you, call 0115 772 2363 to arrange a consultation at Dr CP Aesthetics.
