What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is relatively new to the aesthetic market and can only be injected by experienced practitioners.
Unlike other fillers which sculpt and replace lost volume, Profhilo spreads throughout the lower layers of the skin to cover a wide area to help hydrate the skin, improve skin tone and texture and thereby smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
What areas can be treated?
Almost any area of skin that lacks laxity can be treated successfully with Profhilo. Common areas are face, décolletage and neck.
How does this treatment work?
Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA) however Profhilo is different to standard fillers as it contains two different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. The lower weight HA is responsible for hydration and stimulation of new collagen and elastin within the skin whereas the higher weight HA provides support.
Is it safe?
Profhilo has been available since Feb 2015 and has been used extensively worldwide since then with few reported adverse effects. Profhilo is made up of a high-grade pure HA, no additives and is biocompatible offering an excellent safety profile.
What should I do before the treatment?
As with all injectable treatments we do advise you to avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication for seven days prior to the procedure to minimise bruising unless you have to take them for a medical reason. Avoiding alcohol for 48hours before treatment can also help reduce your risk of bruising.
What can I expect after treatment?
There is very little downtime with the Profhilo treatment, you can go about your normal day straight after. We advise you not to touch the injection sites or apply make up for at least six hours after treatment to minimise the risk of infection.
The second treatment should be completed one month after the first and you should see benefits in your skin condition at that time. After the first two treatments you may choose to either have one treatment every three months or have a further two treatments, one month apart every six months.
It is recommended to have 2 sessions four weeks apart initially for optimal results then three monthly thereafter.
