Botox® is made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. It is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles.
Contractions in the muscles of the face result in small folds in the skin. As time passes, these develop into wrinkles. Botox® works by blocking nerve impulses to the affected muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles which results in smoother, younger looking skin.
At Dr C P Aesthetics I only use the original Botox by Allergan as this what I was trained in and it has 40 years history of research and proven use behind it. There are newer, cheaper alternatives on the market but I find that Botox delivers excellent results for my clients.
Using a very fine needle, I carefully inject small amounts of Botox® into the facial muscle/s causing the wrinkle/s.
Yes – Botox® has been widely researched and used by millions of people for many years. The amount of Botox® used for cosmetic procedures is too small for toxicity to occur.
Dr CP Aesthetics use the finest of needles so the treatment should cause no pain. However, if required, I can apply an anaesthetic cream prior to injection.
Typically it takes two to three days before the results of the treatment are first noticeable and within ten to fourteen days you should see the full effect of your treatment.
This can vary from one person to the next, but for most the results will last from three to six months (and could even be present nine months later). While wrinkles will start to reappear, they may appear softer after each subsequent treatment as the muscles learn to relax. Over time, many patients will find that they can go longer between treatments.
An allergic reaction to the use of Botox® is extremely rare. Patients may notice a small amount of swelling or redness immediately after the treatment due to the use of the needle However, this should disappear after a few hours.
As a fully qualified medical doctor, I will assess all patients for their suitability prior to treatment. Botox® should not be used in pregnancy or when breast feeding. There are also some rare medical conditions which prevent Botox® being given. In addition, Botox should not be administered to patients taking certain medications including the antibiotics Gentamicin and Neomycin.
The most popular areas of treatment are the lines between the eyebrows, the forehead, and the areas around the eyes (crow's feet). Other areas of treatment include 'bunny lines' (either side of the nose and mouth), and ‘gummy smiles'. Other patients may request help with a puckered chin and platysmal bands in the neck. All of this can be discussed in detail with me at your free initial assessment consultation.
Some some skin creases are so deep that Botox alone cannot eliminate them. Dermal fillers add volume to the skin, literally filling the depressed area to create a smoother, more youthful appearance.
What do you use?
The dermal fillers I use include Allergan’s Vycross range®, Juvederm®, Voluma®, Volbella® or Volifts® which are all soft, injectable gels which contains hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that exists naturally in the human skin. It contains an anaesthetic to reduce discomfort, and delivers a smoother, longer lasting result than other products. This ‘next generation’ product was made by Allergan, who boast more than thirty five years experience in the field of medical aesthetics.
As we grow older, our skin loses its natural hyaluronic acid resulting in loss of shape and volume and the development of lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers add volume and refreshes the skin by increasing your natural levels of hyaluronic acid which results in a much improved appearance.
There are a variety of dermal fillers in the Juvéderm® range, offereing differing levels of volumising. Following our initial consultation, I can choose the appropriate type of filler for your treatment area. A softer profuct will be required for lip fillers to create a soft, natural look. However, a firmer alternative would be used for cheek fillers.
I will use a very fine needle to inject the product directly beneath the problem area to fill the depression in the skin.
Yes – dermal fillers have been successfully used worldwide for many years. At Dr CP Aesthetics, the Juvéderm® fillers we use are fully biodegradable following injection.
No - you should not find the treatment painful. The Juvéderm® range already contains an anaesthetic and I can also apply an anaesthetic cream prior to injection.
You will see an immediate improvement which will continue to develop over the coming one to two weeks.
This will vary from patient to patient and also according to the facial area that was treated. For lip fillers, thie effect may last between six months and a year but for areas of the face such as the cheeks where there is less movement, the results could last for up to two years.
Side-effects are rare and there is little risk of allergies or other reactions with the Juvéderm® range used by Dr CP Aesthetics. Within the first few hours of treatment, there may be some temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising where the skin has been injected.
As a fully qualified medical doctor, I will assess all patients for their suitability prior to treatment. Juvéderm® should not be used in patients with severe allergies, (e.g. to bacterial proteins) or patients with a history of anaphylaxis.
Each type of filler has it’s own indication, lip enhancement, volumisation or treatment of fine lines. I will be happy to advise on the estimated number of syringes required at an initial consultation however I rarely administer more than two syringes at a time. I will be able to give you guidance on this upon assessment. However, I generally encourage patients to have no more than 2 syringes at a time in order for you to be in control of the effects. Further treatment can always be undertaken at a later date.
No. There is more chance of side-effects occuring with permanent fillers. Moreover. as your face changes over time, permanent fillers may eventually result in a less natural look.
